Rest In Peace Grand-dad. I remember you telling me (after much pestering) that your time in the trenches was hard. Binding me to secrecy, you showed me a photograph of limbs plastered with mud, stacked and embedded in high walls along a narrow drowned path. You said it was disgusting, what you and your friends endured - the stench of inescapable death. I believe my cousin Bruce - another of your grandchildren - has that photograph now. And we do not forget your lesson, that war can be unjustifiable. You said you regretted going, although you always honoured the memory of your fellow soldiers. I remember you. I love you.
