Horace Victor McHalick
Date Posted
Horace Victor McHalick was my grandfather. He enlisted in 1916. His mother, Clara, encouraged him to join the ambulance corp and he became a stretcher bearer. He served at the Somme and was overseas for 2 years and 154 days. He was very fortunate to come home and live a long happy life, dying at the age of 91. I knew him well, he made my brother and sister and I toffee every time we visited and told stories of his life. He never told stories about his experiences in the war. He had four sons, the second of whom was my father, Hugh.
