Auckland Museum is closed temporarily

Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum will be closed from 10am on Wednesday 12 August in response to our city’s efforts to limit the transmission of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. We look forward to welcoming you back when the city moves back to Level 2 and we are safely able to do so.

: W2097 RNZAF WAAF Judith Copeland, 1944. Born Wellington, New Zealand, 21 January 1921, Judith was the eldest daughter of Royden and Olive Copeland (nee Young). She attended Rangi Ruru College in Christchurch and enlisted in the Royal New Zealand Air Force in October 1941 and entered the Medical Section at RNZAF Ohakea. By the end of the war Flight Sgt. Copeland was posted to RNZAF HQ Wellington as Personal Assistant to the Air Force Member for Supply and in 1946 she was selected to lead the WAAF contingent to the Victory Parade in London. In 1947 she married Flight Lieutenant Alastair 'Scotty' Scott, and they had two daughters, Christine (1948) and Jennifer (1952). Judith won the NZBC Mrs Manawatu competition in 1960 and was Secretary of the Paraparaumu Ladies Golf Club in the mid 1960s. In 1971 Judith and Scotty retired to Adelaide where she took up china painting. Judith died in Adelaide on 17 March 2003.
