Albert Edward Blackwell

: Albert Edward Blackwell with his son Donald Bruce Blackwell b.1921, Albert's father David John Blackwell of Auckland b.1859 d.1935 and Albert's grandmother Margaret Jane Willets (nee. McQuoid) of Epsom Auckland. B.1844 d.1935. Mrs Willets was the widow of Richard Henry Blackwell b.Barton Steeple, England 1823 d. Auckland 1895. Richard (Albert's grandfather) was recruited into the British army at Chipping Norton and sailed on the Ann to Sydney Australia with the 58th (Rutlandshire "Black Cuffs") British Regiment escorting transported convicts. The 58th Regiment then sailed to Bay of Islands, New Zealand to fight in the first Maori Wars. Richard was posted to the army barracks at Auckland Domain, before gaining an honourable discharge when the regiment returned to England. Richard Blackwell married Margaret and they farmed at Whitford.
