George Tuaine

: Survivors of the Somme ...
: This photo was originally a postcard sent home by George McLaren (my grandfather). I am of the belief that it may be the "Bombers" of the 1st Auckland Battalion as there are all Auckland Companies represented. In it I can recognise ... - George McLaren - my grandfather - top right hand corner - George Tuaine - far left. Cook Island man and a good mate of George McLaren - mentioned several times in his diary. - Henry Rowe - 2nd row, 2nd from right. Killed at the Battle of Messines Ridge June 1917. On the reverse side ... "Somewhere in France 14/1/17 Dear Doll (his sister, my great aunt, Henrietta) I am sending you this photo post card of myself and some of my mates who came out safely from the Somme. His nibs is in the top right hand corner. I had a bad cold in the eyes at the time, you can see that in the photo. I am sending you a large one to and I hope they reach you alright. I am writing to Alex (brother - my great uncle) now, and will tell him who else I sent one to. George.
