Arthur Te Waata Gannon

: NZ Soldiers at S A War
: New Zealand soldiers, apparently all non-Māori, relax on a ridge during the South African War of 1899–1902. Many Māori were eager to take part in this conflict but were officially discouraged from doing so. However some Māori, including H. R. Vercoe, Arthur Te Wata Gannon, William Pitt and 'Tip' Broughton, succeeded in enlisting. All of these men later served in the First World War
