LATE 2015: City of Shadows

Past Event
Events Centre, Adults $20, Museum Institute and Circle members $10

This year, 175 years since the founding of Auckland city, LATE delves into all things Tāmaki Makaurau. Next up in the series we're shedding light on Auckland's darker elements.

Panel discussion

Noelle McCarthy chairs this panel discussion about our city's hidden world - the characters and stories of sex, drugs, crime and politics. Panelists include 21-year-old ex-stripper Sarikha Rosli who blogs as The Knocked Up Stripper and Michael Stevens, a sociologist, consultant and a student of gay culture in Auckland. They are joined by AUT senior lecturer Ella Henry, who washed up on K Road as a country girl, became addicted to drugs and moved in to James K Baxter's refuge in Grafton.

Live performance

Okareka Dance Company presents K'Rd Strip, a sexy, provocative and humorous performance that twists Māori mythology with haka, drag queens, live Kiwi music and contemporary dance.

Late-night exhibition opening

Enjoy panoramic views of Auckland City from the Museum’s level three event centre, a delicious food menu created by the chefs at Dawsons Catering, plus a bar will be available. Our special exhibition Taku Tāmaki – Auckland Stories will be open for viewing.
