Current volunteer opportunities

There are sometimes unexpected opportunities for volunteers with a strong background in a specialist area, and we are always interested in hearing from potential volunteers with relevant knowledge, interests and skills.

Current volunteer vacancies

We are looking for people to fill these positions:

Volunteer Guides and Volunteer Mandarin Guides

Every year we take on a small group of volunteers to train as Museum Guides, in English or Mandarin. Find out more and apply for our current intake of Volunteer Guide roles here

Information Desk Volunteers

We currently have a need for more volunteers to work on our Information Desks at both entrances to the Museum. If you enjoy meeting people and helping them make the most of their time in the Museum, you could become a member of our large volunteer team. We need people with excellent communication skills and a genuine desire to help others. A good knowledge of Auckland is also valuable.

The normal commitment is for one half day per week on duty, and lasting at least a year, but preferably longer. We prefer applicants who can be flexible with their availability as the museum is open every day except Christmas day, including school holiday periods and public holidays. Info Desk volunteers need to be available for occasional weekend training days.

Recently filled volunteer roles

  • Geology Collection rehousing volunteer x 2 (Back of House)
  • Palaeontology Collection Project volunteers ( Back of house, short term)
  • Information Desk volunteers, March intake (Front of House)

How to apply to be a volunteer

To apply for the Education, Information Desk or Guide volunteer roles, you must complete an application form and send it to the Museum by post or email. You can find out more information about the application process on our 'How to apply' page.
