Volunteering at Auckland Museum

More than 250 volunteers work at Auckland War Memorial Museum. Our volunteers care for the collections, support our role as Auckland's war memorial, and uplift the unique cultural heritage that makes up the Museum.

Types of Volunteer Roles

Our volunteers represent our Museum and city. We hope to reflect the diversity of our communities by having volunteers from all walks of life. Our programme welcomes applications from all ages and identities whether you're a long standing Aucklander or a new Aucklander alike.

Volunteering is about time, dedication, knowledge, and aroha. If you have these attributes and wish to give back to your community, volunteering at Auckland Museum may be for you.

There are many ways you can volunteer at Auckland Museum. There are roles to match every level of experience and skills, and some require more extensive training and commitment. Below are some of our main volunteer roles, but there are also ways to match your unique interests and expertise.

Back of House Volunteers

Back of House Volunteers

In addition to our front-of-house roles, there are other ways you can volunteer at the Museum. Our volunteers fulfil many varied roles throughout the organization, and bring a wide range of skills with them. If you have a particular passion for military history, or natural history and the sciences, or the library, it is worth submitting an application just in case a vacancy for a Volunteer in those areas arises.

The range of roles undertaken by volunteers in the Museum is vast, so no matter what your skills and interests, it is possible that somebody on the staff is waiting for you to come along and volunteer. If you think you can offer any other special skills, click through to apply and we'll be in touch if we have relevant roles available.
