Tika

human history

Tika. Dark head and shaft. This tika is made of two components that have been separated. A fakaulu (dart head) and light coloured wooden shaft. The fakaulu is dark brown in colour and shaped like a small foot ball with a protruding node at one end. The node would be used to wedge into the hollow at the end of the shaft length. The shaft is long and cylindrical in form. It has been made from a light wood such as fou (Hibiscus tiliaceus). Brown spots can be seen along the light, off-white surface of the spear length. Upon closer inspection, fine linear grain lines can be seen along the surface. Once assembled, this would be used in a game of tika. The point of the game is to throw the tika as far as you can.
