human history

To'i'ulu. Breadfruit splitter. This implement for splitting ulu (breadfruit) originates from a segment of tree wood that is cut and shaped at the natural join between branch and offshoot. It has a natural cylindrical shaft and the piercing component is sharpened to a distinct cutting edge and bevel. The to'i'ulu is light in colour and has a matte, smooth surface treatment.
