i Vutu ni Kakana

i Vutu ni Kakana. Food pounder/pestle. Carved from solid kau (wood) into a long and cylindrical shape, flaring in mid-section along the shaft, with a tapered grip end and round beating end. Towards the beating end of the i Vutu ni Kakana, three holes are drilled in the flared mid-section, as if previously used for inserting metal hooks for hanging purposes. The surface area of the i Vutu ni Kakana is mostly smooth towards grip end, but worn and pitted from use near beating end. Reddish brown in colour.
