Omore

human history

Omore. Spear. Weapon carved from ra'au (hardwood). This omore consists of a long cylindrical shaft and flat lozenge-shaped blade. The butt is finished into a knob with coconut sennit wrapped around it. A double collar is carved at the top end of the shaft with decorative surface incisions. There is some damage to the ra'au on one collar. The blade has a central raised ridge running its length. On one side of the blade two holes are perforated in the surface for previous display. The omore is red brown in colour with surface patina. The shaft has a slight bow.
