Lau fala fili
human history
Lau fala fili. Coil of plaited pandanus. This is a handwoven braid of lau fala. It has been coiled into a flat circular disc. Upon closer inspection the fili (plait) is made up of different shades of lau fala in the same width. The shade of the lau fala can be determined by how long it was left to dry in the sun. The lau fala fili would be used to decorate items such as 'ato (baskets; bags) or the border of mats such as fala moe (sleeping mats).
