Yame ni Matau. Adze blade. Yame ni Matau (the tongue of the adze), is carved from vatu (stone) and is dark grey/black in colour, with a lenticular cross-section. Yame ni Matau has a mild to moderately sharp cutting edge, with a shallow bevel, and with a rounded blade. Yame ni Matau has a high level polish all over, with striations visible across both sides of the blade.
