Tairiiri. Fan. Composite tairiiri woven from kikau ou (young coconut leaf) attached to a muaranga (handle) rakau (wooden). The blade is in the shape of an inverted triangle. Plaited commencement at the centre base. Leaflets are split in half, separating kikau (leaf) and kata (midrib) and woven outwards in finer check. All edges of the blade have a subtly patara (serrated) effect from the weaving. Top edge is flat. Natural colour. Both faces of the blade are identical. Blade is attached to a mauranga rakau of light brown colour and lashed at the centre base of blade with 9 mm of fibre lashing.

Additional measurements: length of the mauranga is approximately 163 mm; length of the blade is 325 mm; length of the section of the handle inserted into the blade 240 mm. Good condition overall. "23176.3 COOK IS PRES." handwritten in black ink on the centre base of the blade. " MR H. BURNETT handwritten in black ink on a faded sticker on the mauranga.
