Ike

Ike. Beater for tapa (barkcloth). Carved from rakau (wood). Rectangular in shape. Four flat sides for beating tapa. The length of the beating surfaces on two sides are carved in fine grooves, two sides carved with two deep grooves, widely spaced. One end of the ike is carved to grip in the hand comfortably, flared slightly at butt end, with carved chevron patterns on the handle. Dark brown in colour.
