Kali. Headrest. Kali are wooden pillows or headrests that are placed under the head or nape of the neck whilst sleeping or lying down. There are different types of kali that vary in construction as well as the materials used. This is a kali hahapo, it is carved from one block of wood, most likely toa (ironwood). This kali has a downwards curve where ones head or nape of the neck would rest. The legs, curve outwards on either side. The underside of the kali has a distinctive carved rib along the length.
