Pouvai

human history

Pouvai. Baton club. Pouvai (Baton club) are a type of club which were used by men in times of warfare and combat, they are used during hand to hand or close contact combat. This pouvai is carved from one block of wood, cylindrical in shape, tapering out slightly from the base to the curved top. Along the entire length of the pouvai there are alternating plain and decorated sections which span across the whole circumference. The plain sections are longer in length while the decorated sections are shorter and consistently the same length throughout. There are triangle and geometric patterns carved into the wood, its possible that these decorations were inlaid with a pigment or coloured substance.
