Breadfruit splitter. Used to split fruit form the breadfruit tree (uru) before making poi or popoi. The splitter is Carved from a single piece of ra'au (wood). The shaft has a circular cross-section and the head/ blade has a triangular cross-section. The blade is bevelled to the cutting edge. There is a projection carved at the distal end of the head/blade with an oval cross-section. There is a slight flare to the butt of the shaft. There is depression carved into the shaft, presumably for the improved grip of holder's the thumb. There is splitting to the body of the ra'au, there is one particularly prominent split running vertically up the shaft. The ra'au has a medium weight and is of a medium colour. It is lightly polished.
