pipe, tobacco

human history

A bamboo tobacco pipe with the entire surface carved with a variety of motifs. When the pipe is lying flat the motifs can be grouped in five decorated sections – three sections are decorated with thin circular bands filled in with a series of lines at an angle and at the centre of each of these three sections is a band that is filled with diamond shaped motifs. In between these three sections are two wide bands that feature more decorative elements that run horizontally. One design looks like the body of a ‘centipede’ and the other design is a series of diamond shaped patterns. The end of the pipe with the mouthpiece is closed with the hollowed out end at the opposite side.
