petticoat
This lavalava kolose is part of a child’s outfit that can be worn under clothing for church or on its own with a child’s titi (dance skirt) and necklace as part of a dance costume. Lavalava kolose are often made for a granddaughter or great-niece for the annual children’s church service Aso Tamaliki (White Sunday) which is held during the month of October. Some of the crocheted designs will include the name of the child or woman who is being gifted the garment. This lavalava kolose was gifted by Melina Nuese to her great niece Noama and has her name crocheted in red along the yellow band. It has been worn by her niece for White Sunday.
