Te kora

human history

Te kora. Coconut sennit cordage. Te kora is made from benu (processed coconut husk fibre). Te kora is rolled on the thigh into a 2-ply twisting process to create longer lengths of cordage. These are used for a range of purposes. This sample is of a pale brown colour, made with many strands of benu to create a thick two-ply te kora. A section has then been rolled back into the cord to create a braided kora from the original two-ply kora. It is fibrous in texture and has been stored as a coil with loose benu strands at one end.
