Te mwae. Neck ornament. This is made from te kora (coconut sennit fibre), wiin te kua kewe (porpoise teeth) and te nana (coconut shell). It is made up of three strands of a two-ply neck band that has been made out of te kora. Small discs of te nana and individual pendants of wiin te kua kewe have been threaded onto te kora to create te mwae. The discs of te nana have been ground into their small circular form and a hole in the centre has been drilled where te kora would be threaded through. Two of these have been threaded between each wiin te kua kewe. The wiin te kua kewe vary in size, most featured the short, sharp toothed end with a cylindrical mid section. The roots of the wiin te kua kewe vary, some tapered into a stub, or left open to show the internal hollow. A circular perforation has been drilled for te kora to be threaded through. The loose ends of te kora have been fastened at one end.
