Round composite basket. A typical Cook Islands form. The foundation is plaited oandanus check matting, folded to form shape. The outer surface is covered with finely braided pandanus coiled and then sewn into place. Two handles. Flap lid made as the res of basket. Base made in same way. Beneath the outer layer the middle layer appears to be 4-ply braid like NZ Maori mekameka. Sewn with fishing /nylon string
