Uncommon. Growing in damp, shaded hollows under Chionochloa pallens subsp. pallens in alpine flush. Plants when bronze-green leaves, flowers creamy-yellow. Growth habit more lax than usual in this species and leaves narrower - possibly due to gorwing situation but forms such as these are widespread and seem to grade into the informally recognised M. "Volcanic Plateau". Chromosome Voucher: n = 22II (P.J. de Lange unpubl. count). NZTM GPS E1818611, N5650411
