Biographical information
- Son of John and Annie Ellen Douglas, of Palmerston, Otago.
Gained commission as Second Lieutenant on 12 March 1917 (Studholme 1928).
"Here for four years from 1908, obtained his commission shortly after leaving Waitaki, where he spent a considerable time. He showed a keen aptitude for military work during his school career, and went into camp on August, 1916, leaving the country with the 23rd Reinforcements in the following April. He only remained one month in England, and on arrival in France received a further month’s training before joining the 2nd Battalion Otago Regiment, unfortunately meeting his death the same day, August 11th, 1917, while reconnoitring with a party of men and examining some new trenches. He was buried in the military cemetery at Prowse Point." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School])
Attended Waitaki Boys' High School, Oamaru. AWMM
