- Captain A. C. Hubbard, killed in action, was a son of Mrs. Hubbard, of Paeroa. When he enlisted he was farming in the Thames Valley, where he was very well known and highly esteemed. He was one of those who started the dairy industry in that district, and was chairman of directors of the Thames Valley Co-operative Dairying Company. A few months ago he won the Military Cross for conspicuous bravery. (Auckland Weekly News, 1 November 1917, p. 22) AWMM
