Letter 1: Undated
We are well treated and with the Red Cross parcels we have plenty to eat. It seems a long time since I had any mail. It is 8 weeks actually.
Letter 2: 9/1/1942
It is just 6 weeks today since I was taken and the time seems to have passed fairly quickly. I suppose it is because there is so little difference between one day and the next. I am just about out of cigrettes again now but it doesn't hurt us to go short for a few days. A few days after we were captured all of us except Buck ran out of tobacco. Buck had a tin of Pocket Edition and 6 of us had a cigarett after each meal out of it. I think they were the nicest cigarettes I had ever smoked. Letter 1: 24 December
Tonight I got a letter posted on 27 October, so I am up to date. I have been very lucky with my mail. I seldom miss a week.
Letter 2: 30 December
Well, Christmas has passed and it was very cheerful and enjoyable. We received one Christmas parcel between 2 of us. It helped to create a real Christmas feeling in the camp. We had a sing-song in the hut in the evening and altogether we had a very good time. I don't know what came over me but I sang a song so maybe I'm not as old as I sometimes feel.
