During the attack on Casa La Morte on the night of 14/15 December 1944, two of the attacking companies on the right of the Battalion sector suffered heavy casualties. Under enemy shelling, Pte. Panoho, as stretcher-bearer, began to evacuate the wounded, often times crossing minefields in order to reach the forward aid post about eight hundred to one thousand yards from the farthest casualties. Throughout the night he worked, sometimes with the help of others but mostly on his own, giving first aid and carrying wounded back. Without thought for his own safety, he maintained his work under enemy Spandau fire even after first light during which the enemy had already begun a counter-attack on the forward right-hand company. Undoubtedly Pte. Panoho's work in this action save the lives of several members of his unit and throughout the day and during the whole of the battalion's action for the next two days, he showed outstanding devotion to duty.
