Kōrero taurongo
- Basil Scanlen was the second son of Ruth Scanlen and Winslow Scanlen of Auckland.
He was badly wounded in the Dardanelles on the 6th August 1915 (Nicol 1921)
Married an Ada Langmaid?, a nurse in the British Red Cross Nursing Corps stationed in France, at the East Ham Congregational Church, London, England in September 1917. But in an affidavit of 1923 his solicitor Bruce Scott of Tuakau writes that he believes the marriage was not consummated, nor did Ada use the name Scanlen.
Name listed at Archives New Zealand as Basil Augustine Scanlen.
Present address (as listed in New Zealand. Army (1920). List of the names of all ex-members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, suffering permanent disability from 20% to 100%): C/o High Commissioner, London
Next of Kin: Mrs R. Scanlen, Mars Ave, Auckland (Roll of Honour, Auckland Province 1914-1918 (Volume 2)). Listed on the Auckland Museum Hall of Memories but did not die in active service. AWMM
