W.A.A.C.s Appreciated - In a recent letter home, Private Claude Ehau, Bartletts, who has; since been killed in action, praises the work being done in Egypt by the New Zealand W.A.A.C.s - He writes as follows; —“The W.A.A.C.s over here are worth their weight in gold, especially the girls at the club. They do toil here and more or less make the boys feel more at home. They treat us Maori chaps the same as they do the pakeha boys, and we appreciate it very much.’’Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 7 May 2023 - GISBORNE HERALD, VOLUME LXIX, ISSUE 20961, 8 DECEMBER 1942, PAGE 2

Ehau. —ln loving memory of our dear son and brother, Private Claude (Doey) Ehau, killed in action at El Alamein, November 2, 1942.
A loss like that is a glorious gain,
And pitiful proud are we—
For peace, must be bought with blood and tears.
And the boy of our heart has paid. —lnserted by his loving mother, and brother, Bill,
Ehau. —ln loving memory of our darling brother. Pte Claude (Doey) Ehau, Killed in action at El Alamein, November 2. 1942.
Though we know there's a hasty grave,
With a poor little cross at his head —
And, the gold of his youth he so gladly gave,
Yet to us he'll never be dead. — Inserted 'by his loving sisters; Sarah and Eileen.Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 30 June 2023 - ROLL OF HONOUR IN MEMORIAM
