Kōrero taurongo
- David MacLean was the son of Allan Hector MacLean and of Alice Kathleen MacLean (nee Allison), of Wanganui, New Zealand.
Next of kin details compiled from information in the Casualty lists published in the newspapers.
Attended Wanganui Collegiate School (Source: RNZAF Biographies (R17845613)) AWMM - Although DD MacLean's names were David Derek, he called himself Derek. In 2009, I scanned 53 of his letters written to his mother, from 4 Feb 1940 when he was at Victoria University in Wellington, through to his last letter home from Malta on 10 May 1942. I sent copies of the PDFs to the RAF Museum, the Malta War Museum and the RNZAF Museum. The original letters have been gifted to the RNZAF Museum.Public - Mike - Other relative - 13 October 2024 - Family papers held by DD MacLean's cousin, the late Mrs Larry Wicksteed of Leithfield in North Canterbury. Her daughter Vanya Maw donated the letters to the RNZAF Museum.
