KILLED IN ACTION : FLYING-OFFICER L. H. McFARLANE A cablegram from Air Ministry advises that news has been received through the International Red Cross, of the death on July 2, as a result of enemy action, of Flying-officer Laurence Herbert McFarlane, formerly of Dunedin.
Flying-offlcer McFarlane, who was reported as missing some weeks ago, was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs.H. O. McFarlane, of Gatesheath, English avenue, Mornington, and would have been 26 years of age yesterday. He was educated at the Otago Boys' High School, and received his flying instruction in 1935 as a member of the Otago Aero Club. He left for England the following year to join the Royal Air Force. A brother, Leading-aircraftman F. M. McFarlane, was a victim of the fatal air crash at Akaroa on June 15; Donald, another brother, is a Sergeant in the first echelon, and the youngest brother, John, expects to be called up for service with the Royal New Zealand Air Force at the end of. this monthPublic - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 25 May 2023 - OTAGO DAILY TIMES, ISSUE 24373, 10 AUGUST 1940, PAGE 10 - Ingoa maumaharatanga
