Kōrero taurongo
- Initial service was with Hospital Ship Marama in 1915. Ruth Smith then returned to duty on HMNZT Devon and saw further service in France.
New Zealand had one hospital in France: No.1 New Zealand Stationary Hospital. It was based at Amiens from July 1916 to April/May 1917. In May 1917 the unit was transferred to Hazebrouck as advance preparation for the second battle of Messines.
Auckland War Memorial Museum Scars on the Heart WWI "Nurses and Volunteers" display. Display item is a card "Best wishes for a speedy recovery from the Staff of "A" Ward His Majesty's New Zealand Hosiptal Ship, No 2" with the names of all the staff on the Marama.
