- Son of Harry Allen Kinder and Emily Kinder, of 51 Arney Road, Remuera, Auckland.
Educated at Wanganui Collegiate
"Now officially reported killed in action, was Head Prefect for the first term of 1912. He came in September, 1904, and gained a considerable reputation for his athletic ability before leaving. He was Captain of the Fifteen in 1911, a year to be remembered in the annals of School football. In company with a number of boys who left at the same time, he went to Cambridge, where on the outbreak of war he enlisted in King Edward’s Horse. Learning that they were ordered to Egypt, and being anxious to go over to France, he was transferred to the 7th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School])
