Kōrero taurongo
- "Norman Fraser was posted to the New Zealand Field Artillery as a Gunner on 4 May, and went to Codford on 28 August, following its establishment in June as the Command Depot. He left for France on 24 September and marched into the base camp at Etaples. His army records indicate that he never reached the Western Front because he fell ill on 10 October suffering from influenza. A week later he was admitted to an isolation block with suspected paratyphoid and remained there for three months before arriving at No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst on 14 January 1917." (Church, p.48)
Norman Fraser received basic military training in New Zealand and further training prior to embarkation for the Dardanelles on 12 April 1915.
