J ALLEN, Minister of Defence: "Ihave now much pleasure in advising you that a cable has been received intimating that your son, 10/1331 Corporal E R F SCARFE, with others, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. Particulars of the act of gallantry for which this decoration was awarded will come to hand later. You will, I am sure, feel justly proud of your son's achievement and devotion to duty." Corporal E. R. SCARFE D.C.M. is well a known Gisborne young man, being 22yrs of age. He left wioth the 2nd Reinforcements & participated in the landing at Gallipoli. - The Le Quesnoy Campaign research was undertaken by the New Zealand Society of Genealogists as part of the development of New Zealand Liberation Museum - Te Arawhata (Le Quesnoy France). This research project was led by CJ Barbour (NZSG), BI Silvester, HH Farrant (NZMHS) with the support of NZSG volunteers (2022). The individuals included in this research dataset were identified as potentially having served in or around the wider Le Quesnoy campaign. Their presence at Le Quesnoy has not been individually verified in every case.
