Kōrero taurongo
- Lancelot Jennings was the son of Charles William Jennings and Agnes Lavinia Jennings (nee Grace), husband of Bella Jennings (nee Cross).
Gained Lieutenant's commission on 18 May 1915 (Studholme 1928).
Promoted to Captain on 1 March 1916 (Studholme 1928).
"Our former Science Master, joined the 6th Reinforcements as a subaltern in the Otago Regiment, serving through part of the Gallipoli campaign. Educated at Nelson and Canterbury Coleges [sic], his career as a student was a brilliant one. After taking his degree, he temporarily held the professorship of biology till the close of 1912, when he came to this School only to prove still further his scientific ability and enthusiasm. He had very decided views on the use and possibilities of science as a school subject, leaving valuable suggestions behind for which those who worked with him will ever be grateful. By the majority he will be remembered as a most excellent tennis player. For five years in succession he won the Sales championship, and in 1913 played in the final for the N.Z. championship. Soon after he arrived in France he was gazetted Captain, and the news of his death in action caused very sincere regret." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School])
Member of the Philosophical Institute of Canterbury.
