Kōrero taurongo
- Nephew of Sir James Carroll. Sir Alfred Thomas "Turi" Carroll (1890–1975) was a prominent Ngāti Kahungunu leader and local politician from Wairoa, New Zealand. Educated at Te Aute College and Lincoln University, he managed his family’s Huramua Station and served as a sergeant in World War I.
A long-time advocate for Māori development, Carroll worked alongside Sir Apirana Ngata on farming initiatives, chaired the East Coast Māori Trust Council, and led the New Zealand Māori Council. He contributed significantly to local governance and agriculture, earning the Bledisloe Medal in 1940.
Honoured with an OBE in 1952 and a KBE in 1962, Carroll’s legacy is one of leadership and dedication to his people and community. AWMM
