  • Thomas Mack was the son of Matthew Joseph Mack and Charlotte Mack (nee Hill) of Opua, Bay of Islands, New Zealand.

    SS Komata was attacked by German raider, Komet, disguised as a Japanese vessel Manyo Maru. The ship was shelled and sunk approximately 20 miles from the island. The survivors from the vessel were among 500 from captured ships, and they were landed at Emirau Island on December 21 1940. Two crew were killed. AWMM
