    Harold Nelson had a distinguished athletics career as a competitor and later as an administrator and coach. Competing for New Zealand as a middle distance runner at the 1950 British Empire Games held at Eden Park, Auckland, he won a Gold Medal in the 6 mile event and a Silver Medal in the 3 mile event.
