Biographical information

  • Son of William Adam Clachan and Margaret Ann Clachan, of "Aberfoyle", 22, Ohiro Rd., Wellington, New Zealand.

Left New Zealand and gazetted to a Commission in Sept., 1914.

Next of kin details compiled from information in the Casualty lists published in the newspapers.

Please note that there was never any evidence to suggest Clachan married. "There is a letter in his war service record on Archway which says Clachan’s possessions were returned to his wife at 22 Elgin Road, Wallington in the UK. This was the address of his Aunt Bella, where Clachan stayed on his arrival in the UK. He arranged for the things he wasn’t able to take with him to France, to be sent to Aunt Bella. The collection contains several letters he wrote to Aunt Bella. Nowhere in the collection is there evidence or a hint that he has a wife. - Peter Ireland, National Library of New Zealand (July 2016).
