Biographical information
- Richmond Dix Gerrard was the son of Ruka Whare Gerrard and Nora Ellen Gerrard, of Tokomaru Bay AWMM
- He was loved dearly by his mother who awaited his return.
My mother Nora Ellen Chatfield (Maiden Name, Hill) said that her nanny, Nora Ellen Gerrard would sit on the porch in Tokomaru Bay looking at the old pine tree down her driveway waiting for her son to return home. It is said that he followed his older brother to war, Sgnt John Gerrard also known as Tieke Makarini Gerrard. John was the only brother who returned home. A plaque was placed in rememberence that one day Uncle Richmond would return to his whanau & Iwi.Public - Te wairua - Other Relative - 23 April 2015 - Family Oral History
