- Obituary
- GISBORNE SERGEANT R.A.F. OPERATIONS Advice has been received by Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Murphy that their youngest son, Sergeant - Gunner Timothy Murphy, Royal Air Force, is reported missing on air operations. He was attached to a Wellington bomber squadron, and had not long been on active air operations against the enemy. Sergeant-Gunner Murphy left New Zealand last December, and trained under the Empire air .scheme in Canada, receiving a high rating for his gunnery. He spent a further few weeks in training in Britain before being posted to the bomber squadron. His elder brother, Sergeant Michael Murphy, late of the Divisional Cavalry New Zealand Expeditionary Force, recently returned to New Zealand to become an instructor with the newly formed Tank Corps at Waiouru.Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 22 July 2023 - MISSING GUNNER
