Obituary

Lieut. P T Emerson, who is reported to have been killed in action at the Dardanelles, was a meat inspector at Gisborne eight years ago. Lieut. Emerson saw service in South Africa with the First Contingent, and subsequently re turned with the 'Seventh Contingents a Lieutenant. After the war he joined the Agricultural Department, and in that capacity was a meat inspector at Gisborne, and was well-known locally as "Tiny" Emerson. From Gisborne he went to Napier, and at the outbreak of war volunteered for service from Wellington, being attached, to the Wellington Mounted Rifles. He was given command of the' first troop sent from Gisborne in August last. Lieutenant Emerson was known as a splendid rider, a fearless and dashing officer, and his demise will be regretted by a host of friends. , He was about 39 years of age, and was a son of the late Police Inspector Emerson. He leaves a widow, who will have much sympathy
