  • In September 2021 Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum announced the inaugural funding round of the Dr James Fawcett Postgraduate Herpetological Awards, which has now been granted to two recipients.

  • Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum will be lit green on Sunday 5 June to celebrate World Environment Day. The United Nations' principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment, World Environment Day is a global platform for raising awareness on environmental issues, with participation from over 143 countries annually.

  • Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland Museum has opened a fourth exhibition in Te Taunga Community Hub, a gallery designed to foster Auckland communities share their stories. Located in the space formerly occupied by the Museum Store in the Grand Foyer, Te Taunga Community Hub provides a space for long-term engagement with the diverse communities of Tāmaki Makaurau.

  • From Friday 15 April Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum will be the first ever Museum in the world to display Peter the T. rex. A fully grown mature adult, Peter is twelve metres long, nearly four metres high and displayed in his hunting position. This rare specimen is one of a small number of almost complete fossil Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons in the world and the first real T. rex fossil ever to be exhibited in Aotearoa New Zealand.
