Gordon Osmond - Papers
Letter to 'My dear Mother, Kath & Dad' from Gordon [Osmond] while at 'Aotea Convalescent Home', dated 14 March 1916, regarding his time spent recuperating at the home before leaving for Ismailia [Egypt]. (2 leaves)
Extracts from the text read as follows:
Extract 1
"I’ll be sent to Ismailia to join my unit any day now...
What a lovely time I’ve had at 'Aotea' it’s really been a dream."
Extract 2
[Page 2]
"No mail yet but hear it’s in Egypt. God knows where. The way we are treated is scandalous, fancy not a letter since the 18th Feb & it’s now the 14th March. Guess I’ll have something to answer when it does arrive...
Remember when I get to Ismailia that letters will be short & uninteresting, the utmost secrecy will be maintained & please don’t worry after we are in the firing line, I’ll come back there’s nothing surer."
