Climate Change March, 2019
Photograph taken at school climate strike march on Queen Street, Auckland. Attended by an estimated 80,000 people. The marchers were rallying to protest governments inaction over climate change. The march was organised by a group of teenagers co-ordinated by Luke Wijohn, aged 17.
In the image a group of people are standing on the road holding a banner 'Climate Change is Pacific Genocide'. Others are carrying signs that read 'Climate Change is our generations nuclear free movement' with a picture of Jacinda Ardern, 'Earth will survive climate change, we wont', 'Chose eco not ego', and 'Fuck each other not the planet'. The photograph was taken at the end of Britomart Place near Quay Street where the strike ended. The protesters linked arms to form a human change at the point where sea levels are predicted to rise by 2 metres by 2160.
