Gil Hanly photographs
Photography from the 1960s up to 2015. Gil Hanly's work covers politics, society, culture and protests from Auckland to Northland. An active recorder of events ranging from an annual trip to Waitangi to hikoi, she has covered Maori rights for decades. Gil Hanly was invited by Greenpeace to document the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland, 1986. Her photography of the anti-nuclear movement has helped New Zealand's nuclear free identity achieve global recognition. She has also photographed numerous gardens.
